Simpson Todd

Last Thirsty Thursday, we had an unexpected visitor.  Gale Murty, the great-great grandaughter of the Reverend Simpson Todd. the original pastor of the First Baptist Church and cornerstone of the Jake’s Cafe Creative Community. It is probably safe to say that Todd also served as the church’s hunchback calling his people to worship with the ringing of the old bronze bell in the Cafe tower. Todd actually served at First Baptist in Sheboygan beginning in 1866 for one or two years and subsequently serviced at First Baptist church in Sheboygan Falls until 1870. One year he actually served both Churches. In 1989, the two congregations combined and the church in Sheboygan Falls was renamed Falls Community Church. He then moved to Brant, an unincorporated village in Chilton township where he served until his death in 1878. His grave is in the Portland Cemetary adjacent to the Brant Church.
