Last week, Jeff Leismer of VibeTech joined the Jake’s Cafe Creative Community and started what will probably become a new tradition.
After Jeff signed the lease to join our creative community, Steve Mech and I climbed up into the church bell tower and rang the big bronze bell seven times to announce our 7th cafe member.
Communities need rituals like this. Things and events that meaningfully bond a community together. It could be a weekly cookout or a Friday after work get-together to share a cold beer, an annual open house or even a Christmas party. I really don’t think it matters what it is. What’s important is that we have them.
I like the idea of announcing our new members with the ringing of the bell...and gauging on the interest that Jake’s Cafe is rousing, I think it’s going to be ringing more often than it has since the church moved to new quarters back in 1989.
The bell may soon ring for a fashion designer, a ceramic artist, an industrial designer, an ideation company and maybe even an architect. The cafe continues to grow. Creative people are coming together from all disciplines, and we’re creating together... just as we were called.
