I am a minimalist but I’d rather tell you what I do; not what I am, so If you really must know what a minimalist is, Google it. Now, I've worn many hats at the jobs I've had over the years, machine operator, skip tracer, etc. No matter the hat though, I've always been the computer guy. For over ten years now, I've put 2 decades worth of passion and experience for computers and computer networks to work for small and medium sized businesses throughout southeastern Wisconsin.
As a machine operator, I often made the most exacting parts from raw materials costing into the 10’s of thousands of dollars - an error as small as .003 of an inch could be a costly mistake. Now, a computer is not a CNC lathe, but a mistake with your company data can be far costlier than any botched part. My attention to detail and the personal responsibility that I took for every part that I made earned me a reputation as the guy to go to when things needed to be done right. I will tell you what a skip tracer is, if you don’t already know, it’s a bit more glamorous than a minimalist. Skip tracers locate people and assets for creditors who are owed money - pretty simple really. Now through various legal and ethical means, I could not only find the person these creditors were looking for, but I could find their job, if they had one, and any other assets that they may have hidden, even if they appear to have dropped off the face of the earth!
As many of us know with computers, the solution to the problem is rarely in plain sight. They can in fact, be well hidden among an impossible tangle of wires, or within improperly configured software, or even within a failing piece of equipment. I know where computer problems hide.
