Hello Plein Air Painters.
Yesterdays Paint Out at Cascade reminded me of the Fall Color Saturday Paint Outs that Kitty hosted through the Plymouth Arts Center some ten years ago. Kitty was holding one Saturday Paint Out each fall for about six years supplying all the materials and easels for #35.00. It was through these events that I met Dan Rizzi and wetted my appetite for plein air painting.
One of Kitty’s students had a beautiful piece of land on Hwy. S, south of hwy67. In the low areas close to the hwy. was a man made pond with a split rail fence. I had never painted water before and I asked Kitty how to do it. I still have that painting hanging in my home as a sort of “Break Through Moment” in my early years of painting. Painting water is “FUN!”
Last Saturday Joan, Ruth and I painted on the Cascade Mill Pond. It was a perfect day to paint and we all completed excellent paintings of the pond each with a different interpretation of water. None of us painted in the many Canadian geese that kept swimming by, the Sand Hill cranes that flew overhead, or the bull frogs that kept croaking in the pond scum. We finished off this quick paint event with dessert back at Joan’s house. Those that were not there missed her famous sour cream coffee cake with cranberry filling, ice tea and chit-chat about being painters. It was perfect!
Ruth is hosting next Saturday’s (July 26) Mullet River Artists Paint Out. Ruth lives in Gibbsville at N3148 School street. Driving south on Hwy 32 from Sheboygan Falls turn left on “Co. Hwy OO” in downtown Gibbsville near the Gibbsville cheese factory. Head west to School Street one block then right again to Church Street. Left on Church Street to N3148 on your right. Wait until you see Ruth’s painting studio! If we all had this nice of a space to paint we would never go out side. There will be open fields, flowers and enclosed spaces around town to paint including Mr. Ros’s old Dutch barn just east of Hwy 32/OO. Ruth’s phone is 920-564-3905.
August 2nd’s Paint Out will be back in Cascade at Joan’s and August 9th we will be painting in Sheboygan Falls at the Mullet Rivers confluence with the Sheboygan River on Richardson Industries land. Remember to pack your lunch and bring water and bug spray for each paint out. I will be gone the next two Saturdays, but do not let that keep you away!
Up with painting!
