Jake’s “Food For Thought”: Starts February 12th

Join us next Wednesday, February 12th at 11:45 a.m. as Jake’s Cafe’s “Food For Thought” starts its TED Talk Video Series. Each week we will enjoy lunch and watch two lectures followed by a lively and interactive discussion. For those of you who are already TED fans, nothing more need be said. For those of you who are new to TED Talks, you’ll be exposed to and inspired by new life changing ideas that will help you personally and professionally.

We will start with two of the most popular TED Talks of 2013.

Dan Ariely: “What Makes Us Feel Good About Our Work?”
What motivates us to work? Contrary to conventional wisdom, it isn’t just money. But it’s not exactly joy either. It seems that most of us thrive by making constant progress and feeling a sense of purpose. Behavioral economist Dan Ariely presents two eye-opening experiments that reveal our unexpected and nuanced attitudes toward meaning in our work.

Jason Fried: “Why Work Doesn’t Happen At Work?” Jason Fried has a radical theory of working: that the office isn’t a good place to do it. In his talk, he lays out the main problems (call them the M&Ms) and offers three suggestions to make work work. Jason Fried thinks deeply about collaboration, productivity and the nature of work. He’s the co-founder of 37signals, makers of Basecamp and other web-based collaboration tools, and co-author of “Rework.”

Sign up with Melissa on Monday.  We will order Jimmy Johns Subs for those who are interested. There will be a $6 cost for sandwich and delivery.  We’ll start February 12th,  11:45 the Jake’s Cafe church conference room.  See you there!
